If you want to pursue a career in stonemasonry or building conservation we have courses ranging from the Diploma Level 2 to the accredited Advanced NVQ Level 3 and the Foundation Degree in Applied Architectural Stonework and Conservation. If you want to undertake private commissions or simply work stone for pleasure there are also leisure courses on offer throughout the year.

All stonemasonry courses and building conservation courses are taught at the Dorset Skills Centre and can be tailored to suit individual training needs with various attendance patterns.

Stonemasonry NVQ Level 2

These courses contain practical masonry skills on a variety of stones, using different techniques, stonemasonry theory, geometry and practical drawing along with setting out and template making. If you are currently pursued in the industry you may be able to pursue the NVQ qualifications on a Block release and produce a portfolio of evidence of your achievements.

Applied Architectural Stonework & Conservation Foundation Degree

Level 5, 2 Years, Sept 2015, Full-Time

This course provides a broad foundation in architectural stone carving, masonry and letter cutting, together with conservation, sculpture and restoration, enabling you to acquire the skills and knowledge associated with this specialist area.

If you wish to continue your studies to a third year, you will be eligible to apply for progression onto the final year of the Historic Building Conservation BSc(Hons) taught at Kingston University.
